Materials and Techniques 2 assignment 4: create a sculpey figure representing a king/queen of any theme to use as a lighting and pose reference for our final illustration.
After all this i still need to light it, photograph it, and draw it in an illustration.
So much texture.

This gal. And in 200 copies to be exact. I’m illustrating a children’s book, amidst finals, a part time job, volunteering at bonnaroo, and general life things. Sleep will come in the future.
But really, this is exciting stuff here
chai tea + curry + drawing = a fancy night

Final for Materials and Techniques 1, which is actually a combination of mediums. We started off by gessoing illustration board, applying several torn strips of newsprint, adding more gesso over that, and allowing it to draw. We then painted whatever we wanted in acrylic, applied a clear coat of fixative, and then added finishing touches with oil pastels.
And this is what turned out.

The final assignment in my intro to illustration class last quarter was first to create 5 circus characters of any theme of our choice - i chose flowers - and then arrange them into an 8” x 22” composition that could be used as a bus wrap. These here are my flower people.

Another from Materials and Techniques 1. The topic was to create a ‘self portrait jubalaya’ in whatever way we wanted as long as we used color pencil. We were supposed to represent ourselves in a creative way including aspects of ourselves and our interests so that it wasn’t just a traditional portrait. Some of my interests I included were tea, birds, flowers, crystals, noodly arms and oddly colored hair.

I don’t even know how i am so bad at keeping up with posts. I did this a couple months ago in my Materials and Techniques 1 class, for the topic of ‘fear’. We had to use gouache as our medium, which I have a love hate relationship with. I went with the idea of facing your fear, which can at times seem impossible, but you’ve just gotta try your best. Personally I feel incredibly uncomfortable in most social settings, and would like to avoid them altogether sometimes, but I purposely put myself out there and put on a brave face anyways. It’s been a slow process but I have definitely noticed some progress over the years.

Potential magazine cover for In Character that I did for Editorial Illustration this quarter. It was made entirely in photoshop. I don’t do much digital work anymore but I’d like to get back into it, even if to just have some digital pieces for my portfolio.
